Facebook is a seriously broken platform, and it has been for quite sometime. It invades your privacy by collecting data from you for "marketing purposes" (although we all know that's not the only purpose for the data collection). The CIA and NSA essentially own Facebook, and have access to all the data everyone provides there so they can catalog our lives to possibly use against them at a later date. Additionally, Facebook owns 100% of the content you post there, and you have no legal rights to any of it, even if it was your own original writing, art, video, or photography... Oh and the best part is, while selling off all your private info to corporations, allowing government agencies with covert agendas to track and record your every move and message, purposely making your content almost invisible to the masses unless you pay them, and stealing your original creations uploaded to their site - they don't even pay you for any of it!
That is why I love Hive (& Steem in some respects hoping it will improve in others), a decentralized social-media blogging platform that allows you to officially publish dated content which you 100% own, and get paid in cryptocurrency for it with a peer to peer voting/rewards system. Not to mention the ass-ton of incredibly useful dapps & monetarily insentivized games (which is the future of gaming).
I have never really liked Facebook, even back in the days when it was first released, but like many others I stayed on it to keep in contact with friends. Being that Facebook was released to the world in the same year that I graduated high school and was starting my freshman year in college, I actually had one of the first 75,000 FB accounts. The site was originally designed for college students and faculty, and you had to have a .edu email address to open an account.
After some severe relationship drama, I eventually permanently deleted my first FB account that had thousands of friends on it, including most of the people I grew up with and knew from school. Years later I opened another account to get back in contact with my current partner, and also to promote my music and crafts. However, since I find more drama and disease on Facebook than any actual useful or inspiring content, I decided I finally had enough of the plethora of negatives the platform has to offer.
"Facecrack" (as I like to call it) is a platform I can no longer tolerate in my life. It sucks away lifeforce with more greed than a vampire. Scrolling though meaningless and opinionated short posts and ignorant memes about utter nonsense while always worrying about how many likes and friends you have compared to other accounts is just horrific (anyone remember My Space's "Top 8"?). That is why I have decided to consciously purge myself from wasting time in that space any longer.
As soon as I made the conscious decision to evolve away from Facebook completely, I instead started spending that time navigating other aspects of the Hive and remembered why I fell in love with this blockchain in the first place - the unparalleled wisdom and utilities found in the content published by this chain's outstanding activists in all sorts of arenas, topics, and communities. Everything from how to improve the environment, personal wellness, and humanity, to some of the most amazing art found anywhere - #onchainart for the win.

Inspired from this post, combined with a sheer long-term dislike of the platform, I decided to make the conscious decision of purging myself from Facebook. As an artist, I will still keep the account active, check messages infrequently, and promote new musical and artistic productions I manifest, but I will no longer be navigating or supplying content for FB ever again. My lifeforce is just too valuable to waste on a broken platform that I have never been satisfied with, and has never served my best interest. I hope I can inspire some of you to do the same, my life is without question better for it.
