Good day. Simple day.
I was surprisingly not exhausted when I got home this morning. I turned out the chickens and helped Sam feed and water the rabbits before heading to bed. I slept great, and woke up to enchiladas for family supper.
I picked up a load of pallets on the way home. I thought I would use them as a pig fence, but @goldenoakfarm says the pig fence will need buried to keep the pigs from rooting under it. Makes sense. We can run with that plan though, the fence will just be a little more permanent than I'd thought at first. We'll use chain link and cemented t posts.
This weekend we plan to harvest the other two white pile buns. They've fattened up well, and I'm hosting a spring event for the man scouts. A festival, swap meet, family day, etc. We might even do a little planting... I'll be getting my first tattoo too. Of course, pics will follow.
I used purse.io this evening before work to spend some of my blog earnings on homestead supplies. Coming up on spring, I'm planning on streamlining the rabbit setup. The parts I ordered are for an automatic waterer. A float valve, two bucket connectors, and some food safe tubing to all go with the rabbit nipples I ordered this past weekend. This will make Sam's chore of feeding and watering the rabbits a bit simpler. Later I'll get some more filament, some clay for Melissa to use on the new pottery wheel I got her, and some pig nipples to set up their waterer. @goldenoakfarm do you think a five gallon bucket will suffice for pigs if I put a float valve on it to refill as needed? I've seen the big blue barrels used before, but if I can get away with a bucket, that'd be better because I already have plenty of them.
I have to say, it's really awesome looking out the kitchen window and seeing chickens on the homestead again. They add a fulfilling simplicity to this place, even though they're not producing yet and do add another chore, there's just something about em. I think it's time I start sourcing a different breed rooster... I want to hatch some chicks now. I'll need a small incubator... Perhaps a side hustle is brewing. There's gotta be a market for locally bred chicks.
Welp. I'm gonna get back to work now and keep brainstorming. Gnite.
Love from Texas
Nate💚
