We all have favorite TV shows we love to play and rewind every time. I know I do. That’s why I put this list of the all-time favorite TV shows together.
But before I continue, let me give you this short disclaimer:
I am not a movie critic. And this list isn’t based on public vote or any anything sensible like that. The only requirements are:
- The TV show must impress me greatly. And.
- I haven’t personally meet anyone who has watched any of these series and does not instantly like it.
With that out of the way, I’m so glad to present you with the top 7 all-time favorite TV shows.
*7. Jumong
I watched this Korean TV show back in high school because my classmates won’t stop talking about how amazing it was. When I watched it, I wasn’t disappointed.
This isn’t the only Korean TV series I’ve watched, but this is by far the coolest (in my opinion). I don’t understand Korean so I watched the version that was fully subtitled in English. This is the epic story of how Jumong founded the ancient Korean kingdom of Goguryeo in 37 B.C.
*6. Immortal
This is a Philippine TV series that is based on the popular genre of vampires and werewolves. It is the story of a misinterpreted prophecy. And the misinterpretation makes this show incredible.
The prophecy is - the chosen wolf would marry the chosen vampire and there will rise a monster because of that marriage. From love to betrayal and everything in between, this show is full of stuff that will keep you on your toe every single episode.
The version I watched (alongside my friends) is fully subtitled in English. And watching it soon became our favorite pastime activity.
*5. Cougars - The Series
If you are a little naughty, risqué, or cheeky by nature (which we all are sometimes), you’ll love this series. This Nollywood (or should I say Nigerian?) TV show is the only Nollywood TV show that makes my list of top 7 favorite TV shows (Even though I am a Nigerian). If I have extended this list to ten, then some others would definitely find their way here.
Just as the title suggests, the show is all about older (and incredibly endowed, experienced, and beautiful) women getting attracted to (and dating) younger men. The thing is - these events are completely unprecedented.
OK, that’s all I’m gonna say about this show. Moving on to the next show.
*4. LACASA DE PAPEL - Money Heist
This is a Spanish TV series that has a cultlike following here in Nigerian. The plot is outrageously ambitious. And that’s what forces you to be a complete fan or a complete hater of the show.
When watching this show, you can never be on the fence. You either hate it with passion, or you love it with all your heart.
The plot is simple: rob the mint of your country, print a billion dollars without the government knowing what you’re doing until it’s too late, and win the love of the public while you’re at it.
And what do you do after you escaped with all that money and one of you gets caught only years later in season 2? Come back to rob the central bank! The government will have no choice rather than to release him. Plus, you still go away with all the gold reserve of your country.
You have to give part of that money back to the public, of course. And as you are already thinking, “it’s not possible to pull something like that off.” Yet, in this show, they did.
But you already know that will be incredibly difficult to do. And you’re right - it’s almost impossible. It takes a lot of planning to the tinniest details. Predict every single outcome and how you would survive it.
If you haven’t watched this Netflix original, you’re missing out. Don’t worry, it is fully subtitled in English and there is even an English version!
*3. Merlin
When the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) decides to make a TV show about the legendary King Arthur and his warlock of a servant, you know it’s bond to be one of the most amazing TV shows of all-time.
Merlin is the story of a warlock named, you know, Merlin! When he arrives at Camelot, he had no idea that the destiny of a great ancient kingdom and of its current crown prince rest upon his (Merlin’s) shoulder.
After an encounter that didn’t go so well with the then prince Arthur, Merlin found himself in a big trouble. He later became the Prince’s servant. That Arthur thinks Merlin is a complete idiot isn’t a secret he tried to hide.
Arthur later grew found of Merlin and could barely do without him. Magic was prohibited in Camelot, but that never stopped Merlin from using his magic secretly.
From dragon to magic and everything in between, Merlin is an outstanding series about the rise and fall of King Arthur.
*2. Legend of the Seeker
This is the legend of a seeker, his confessor of a partner who is a woman, their noble course, an underworld, and a bunch of other things you will not understand until you watch this super interesting series.
Sadly, the show was cancelled after 2 seasons and the finale was epic.
*1. Game of Thrones
Unless you’ve been living under a big rock for ages now, you’ve at least heard of GoT. There are different websites created for this show, from makinggameofthrones.com, which is the official blog of the show to winteriscoming.net, where you can read about how Queen Elizabeth herself visited the Game of Thrones set, and many websites and blogs in between.
This is a story that took place in Westeros, a magical continent. Several individuals and families claimed they were the rightful heirs to the iron throne where they could sit down conveniently to rule seven kingdoms. Even a man popularly called Littlefinger who came from nowhere made plans to sit on the iron throne and marry the daughter of his ex-crush.
