Empty Classic Paintings to Illustrate Corona Virus Pandemic

José Manuel Ballester adapts famous works from the COVID-19 era.

The Spanish artist transforms famous scenes from classic paintings by Goya, Picasso, and Vermeer by removing the main aspect: the characters. The pandemic has inspired many artists who use art to share their unique perspectives on this astonishing time.

In these works, however, Ballester preserves certain parts of the works such as an unfinished portrait or a ground covered in blood after a battle. An intriguing series that gives an impression of emptiness, of suspended life, as one can feel it at this moment all over the world. Bulent licis Metin licis
