Lesya born in 1871 in the town of Novohrad-Volynskyi of Ukraine.
Lesya's work reflected strong emotions and mental anxiety, and at the same time, faith in the victory of good and justice. Feeling like the heir to European culture, she often referred to antiquity, as well as to modern trends in Western literature. There are signs of symbolism in her works. The poetic drama "Forest Song" is considered the most perfect of the works of Lesya Ukrainka.
She was against autocracy and the power of the Tsar.
As a literary critic, Lesya Ukrainka has published a number of articles on the history and modernity of European literature. She is also the author of many translations into Ukrainian, incl. Homer, Heine, Hugo, Byron and Mickiewicz.
