Hi Steemians,

It's my pleasure to partake in this amazing contest organized by @okere-blessing. Plagiarism is common nowadays, especially among lazy people in academic environments who don't put more effort into developing their own ideas. Here is my contribution on the above topic.

Explain plagiarism to a newbie on Steem.

Plagiarism is copying another person's work without informing the original author, and at the end of the day, claiming such work as your own. Many people have written about plagiarism on this platform, so it's not new anymore, except for newbies who have just recently registered on Steemit. They must try as much as possible to avoid plagiarism and follow the rules and regulations stated on the Steemit platform. Quality content is important because the Steemit team values your clear ideas. Those who write quality content have a high chance of increasing their reputation and gaining other benefits that attract them.

What are your best approaches in educating new users on abstinence of plagiarism on Steem.

Your own ideas will help you grow, improve, and learn new things on a daily basis. Plagiarism is forbidden; the moment you are caught by the moderators or admin of the community that organized the contest you participated in, you will not be able to earn a reward for that post, which means you are not entitled to the reward. Instead of focusing and having strong determination to succeed on Steemit. Additionally, plagiarism will not help you reach or achieve your long-term goals unless you decide not to plagiarize. Make sure your content is free from plagiarism; you can even use a plagiarism checker before posting to detect if you have mistakenly copied another person's work.

Do you believe on Steem Moderators links of checking plagiarism ? Or you have your own trusted method.

The link to check plagiarism by the moderators works perfectly and effectively by detecting authors who copy original work of another author without citing proper sources. Users who are caught in this illicit act are tagged with a description of plagiarism so that it can serve as a warning to others who engage in this act. There are many plagiarism checkers, but it depends on your choice and what you find interesting to use.

The link or app I would suggest is Grammarly Plagiarism Checker. Some authors use this link to check for plagiarism. This app can easily catch people because it is user-friendly and its features are quite impressive. You can operate it on your phone and laptop. This plagiarism checker is an advanced detector of content written with the help of AI, and it's very fast to give you a quick response.

Do you know you can avoid plagiarism? Mention at most three ways of avoiding plagiarism.

These are the following tips users must follow to avoid plagiarism. Once you abide by these tips, your text will make sense to the readers who find it interesting.

• Cite your sources: This is the easiest way to avoid plagiarism. Cite your sources properly because that's where the original information or ideas come from, copyright-free pictures are available on Pixabay, Pexels, Freepik, and others. Download the image and cite the source by pasting the link from where the pictures come.

• Quotation: You can use a blockquote sign > that's available on Steemit Markdown style to indicate that someone owns this work. Which means that the idea is not you own.

• Commit by using your own ideas: Your ideas are essential and will help you make a breakthrough. Be original and completely avoid plagiarism because it will not help you progress on Steemit. Read about the topic given to you, whether it's on the internet or in a book, use the knowledge you gain to form your own words.

Conclusion

Stealing another person's information is a great sin. If the author finds out, they can sue you in the court of law for damages. Steemit frowns upon this act because they value users who use their brains. I would like to invite @bonaventure24, @chilaw and @sahmie to come and join me in this contest.

Citing your work is one of the legit way to generate plagiarized-free work. Most users today do not want to breakout miracles from their creativity.

Using your own thought show that you're capable to write your article by yourself without depend or using another person data. Its kind of confidence that keep us improving to discover some area will make mistake with the hope to make necessary adjustment. Thanks for your wonderful comment

You're welcome

A good read.
I do have some concerns though. Many people claim that using these plagiarism tools have their cons.

  1. It steals your data (add written works here)
  2. It stores the content you upload. So, when someone scans it elsewhere, it would reflect plagiarism at their end instead.

I don't know how true this is. For best practices, I'd just recommend writing your thoughts in your own words depending on how you understand the information.

When you try writing someone else's thoughts, you are bound to engage in plagiarism. This is not a good place to be as it can destroy your reputation, credibility and trust.

Not all of them but some plagiarism checker fail to detect article that copy from other sources but there are powerful plagiarism checker who can quickly detect the accuracy where the information emanate from. If we can't use that we can seek for alternative way by using your own words and proof read your article from that you can see some mistake you make. Thanks for your valuable comment
