Proof-of-Work (PoW) is a very energy-intensive method that was used by most of the giant cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc. Besides, Proof-of-Stake (PoS) is an energy-efficient process that may reduce up to 99.99% carbon footprint. For this reason, Ethereum decided to switch to the less energy-consuming mechanism planned at its inception in 2014.

It is supposed to make the ETH more sustainable and attract investment platforms to the institutional big investors like Tesla which gives high priority to environmental aspects.

But there is another side to this event. The miners of Ethereum have already invested a lot in mining ETH in PoW. A new fork is going to be formed through this Merge. So hardware investors must be unhappy with this switching as their investment may become a loss project. Besides, this event may create high volatility in ETH prices in short term. But it may bring benefits for the promising investors in the long run.

No doubt, the Merge is going to be one of the most-awaited moves in the crypto market. It will be recognized as the biggest transition of Ethereum if only the Merge becomes successful.
