Peyote flowers and fruits

The flowers were actually formed after the fruits, I haven't tried sowing them though

There are a couple of species in this genus, this one is Lophophora williamsii

I'd be too scared to grow such a large, old plant: many succulents dislike change

I was in the beginning but I have had it for two years and realised that it's tough and actually likes living outside and being much more hard grown. It had to adapt its structure but it did

Many of the cacti from those areas need a lot of calcium and large is not good

I mixed a lot of finely crushed eggshells into the potting mix and made it much sandier. So far, so good

Beautiful specimen! I see an offest peeping out there, that's unusual

It actually has 3 small offsets. I read that they do that if they are injured and it definitely had something tunneling in its body a few years ago. Surprisingly, it healed

I'm glad it healed! I guess we get so attached to them because they are so slow and expensive

I think it also grew large too fast, I grow it much harder since I got it and the body structure more or less collapsed, a sign of rampant growth and not enough Calcium
