The trunk is rotten, so it is possible that many mushrooms grow there, although not all mushrooms can be eaten because they are poisonous.

Mushrooms are unique organisms because they are neither plants nor animals. There are various types of mushrooms, such as edible mushrooms (such as oyster mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms) and poisonous mushrooms that should be avoided. In addition, mushrooms also play an important role in the ecosystem as decomposers.

Mushrooms have many health benefits because of their rich nutritional content. Here are some of the main benefits of mushrooms: 1. Source of nutrients: mushrooms contain vitamins D, B, selenium, potassium, and fiber which are important for body health.

  1. Boost immunity: Some types of mushrooms, such as reishi and maitake, are known to help boost the immune system.

  2. Low Calories: Mushrooms are low in calories and fat, making them suitable as a food to maintain weight.

  3. Source of Antioxidants: Mushrooms are rich in antioxidants that can help fight free radicals, thereby reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer.

  4. Maintain Heart Health: The fiber, potassium, and vitamin C content in mushrooms helps lower blood pressure and maintain heart health.

  5. Control Blood Sugar: Mushrooms can also help control blood sugar levels, making them good for diabetics.

Mushroom cultivation can be done with fairly simple steps, as long as it can provide a suitable environment for mushroom growth. The following is a basic guide to mushroom cultivation, especially oyster mushrooms which are popular in Indonesia: 1. Preparing the Planting Media Mushrooms grow in a planting medium that is rich in nutrients, especially sawdust or straw. To get started, you need to prepare a planting medium which can be a mixture of sawdust, lime, and rice bran. The ratio is as follows: Sawdust (80%) Rice bran (10-15%) Lime (2-3%) All of these ingredients are mixed evenly and moistened until they have a water content of around 65%. This planting medium is then put into plastic or a special container called a baglog.

  1. Sterilizing the Planting Media After the media is put into the baglog, the next step is to sterilize the media to kill bacteria or fungi that can interfere with the growth of the cultivated mushrooms. Sterilization is usually done by steaming at high temperatures (around 100-120°C) for 6-8 hours.

  2. Inoculation (Seedling Planting) After the media has cooled, the mushroom seeds are planted into the baglog. Good quality mushroom seeds are very important to ensure maximum results. This inoculation process must be carried out in a sterile environment to avoid contamination.

  3. Incubation The baglog that has been filled with mushroom seeds is then stored in a dark room with a temperature of around 24-28°C and quite high humidity (80-90%). At this stage, the mushroom mycelium will grow and spread throughout the media. This incubation process takes around 2-4 weeks depending on the type of mushroom.

  4. Maintenance After the mycelium has spread evenly, the baglog is moved to a brighter but still humid production room. Keep the room temperature between 22-28°C, and make sure the room has good air circulation. Mushrooms will start to grow from the holes in the baglog.

  5. Watering and Maintenance Mushrooms require high humidity, so make sure the environment remains humid by spraying air regularly in the room, not directly on the mushrooms. The air used must be clean so that the mushrooms are not contaminated.

  6. Harvesting Mushrooms can be harvested when the cap has started to open but not completely. Harvesting is done by turning or cutting the base of the mushroom, then the mushroom is ready to be sold or processed further.

  7. Post-Harvest Management After being harvested, the baglog can still produce several more times, depending on the condition of the baglog and the environment.
