General Overview and Background
Today I am going to share an important international event. Its name is World Press Freedom Day and this event is celebrated annually on 3 May. This date for the celebration of World Press Freedom Day was declared by the United Nations General Assembly. This event is celebrated to raise awareness about the freedom of the press as well as to remind the government and other institutions role and importance of freedom of the press in a state. The day is also celebrated to know the state of freedom of the Press around the world, to defend media from anti-media attacks, and to give a special tribute to the member of the press who have lost their precious lives in the exercise of media.
Theme of World Press Freedom Day
Every year in the world, World Press Freedom Day is celebrated with a new, unique, and important theme. Like past years, in 2024 there is a specific theme of World Press Freedom Day. This theme is "A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the environmental crisis". In 2024 this event is specially dedicated to the role of journalism and freedom of thought in the context of existing environmental crisis. Awareness of environmental crisis is very important in the build-up of society. But the role and work of a journalist is very necessary. Because journalists are the only leading team in the world who can easily share information throughout the world in a proper way. They can raise their voice against supply chain problems, illegal mining, uncontrolled pollution animal trafficking, climate change, deforestation, floods, climate migration, resource depletion, poaching, and human smuggling.
This becomes the necessary duty of every journalist to report the above-mentioned issue accurately and on time. By doing so we can get rid of environmental crises and can attain sustainable development. And if we violate this strategy
then one day we will reach a situation from which recovery will be even impossible. So it is time to join the hands for the recovery of the god-gifted clean and green environment.
