On island museum

I continue the story about visiting the Kizhi island.

When I publish another post, I am always limited by the number of photos. Usually I get a fairly large number of illustrations on the topic of my article, since I photograph a lot.

But in a post I manage to insert from 20 to 30 photos, after which they are no longer loaded. Maybe this is somehow connected with the features of the web interface, I don't know for sure. But the fact is that I always have photos that I want to showcase.

So after visiting the island-museum of Kizhi, I still have a lot of photos that I would like to show. And of course, tell.

To be honest, I've already talked about Kizhi several times, but this is such a place that you can talk about endlessly.

As you remember, I got to the island by boat. I was brought by a boatman from the village of Bolshaya Guba. And already on the island I moved on foot from house to house, studying and examining samples of wooden architecture of the Zaonezh region.

The main point on the Kizhi island is of course the Kizhi churchyard. It is located on the opposite side of the island. Thus, you can walk along the sharp from one side to the other and see all the exhibits of the museum.

On the one hand, the island is not very large. On the other hand, if you zigzag to approach each house or chapel, then the path is long.

We arrived on the island early in the morning and came to the middle of the island only for lunch. We had some food supplies with us and we sat down on a hillock and gladly made a halt.

From this hillock the Kizhi churchyard was clearly visible. This is the main pearl of the island. Behind a stone fence there are two beautiful temples and a bell tower. All this is made of wood and simply amazes the imagination with its harmonious forms and decoration with such a primitive material.

Before going inside the churchyard, I decided to go around the fence and examine everything that is around. There are many interesting things in this part of the island.

For example, there is a working smithy. A real blacksmith works in it. Nearby there is a museum displaying boats used by local residents. In addition, woodworking workshops are held here.

By the way, pay attention to the hedges. They are oblique. This is a fairly common feature for hedges in northern locations. Such a fence is easy to make and does not require digging in pillars or even nails. Such a hedge can be easily moved to a new location and will not leave behind any damage.

Of course, it is not very durable, as it is knitted with rods, but this is also not necessary. If you choose the right material and prepare it well, then such a fence can stand for 30 years.

Of course, in reality, such a fence usually costs less, but it is easily repaired even by women and children.

I am getting closer and closer to the story about the Kizhi churchyard itself, but I will do this story in another article.
