In 1652 the Dutch East India Company set up station at the tip of Africa to renew its boats on the long journey to and from the East Indies By the late seventeenth century the little Cape settlement had arrived at the mountains sitting above False Bay. This rich valley was known as the Hottentots Holland after the indigenous Khoikhoi individuals in the region. In 1672 the Dutch East India Company set up a station there to create bargaining joins with the Khoikhoi in the hinterland and to give brushing to organization animals.
