Songkran New Years in Luang Prabang 2021

in hive-184437 •  4 years ago

There were very few foreigners and not so many local people either, but everyone still had fun and enjoyed the water festival to celebrate the Lao New Year. Last year it was a complete ghost town so at least things are starting to get back to normal somewhat. This was all the video I could get during the three days because it was hard to get my phone out of its waterproof bag. These few clips don't do justice to what I really saw, but until we get contacts that record cool stuff during our day this will have to do. The Lao new year is the same time as the Thai new year. April 13-15 is usually the hottest time of year so people will listen to music super loud, drink, smoke, let loose, and splash water on each other for three days to cool off. It's quite the experience. Lao and Thai people who live in California will get together a week later and celebrate in Los Angeles too. Thanks for checking out my Songkran video! Sabaideebimai!
