Deribasovskaya is a street that is practically the same age as the whole of America. USA in 2021 will be 245 years old. If we take the end of the War of Independence as a count, then America is 238 years old. Deribasovskaya celebrated her 210th birthday. Today we'll talk about the street, which has three official addresses (real) and 4 courtyards.

There are a lot of legends around the street. Her story is built on interesting everyday and not only deeds. If we talk about architecture, then it is worth noting that even bridges and roads have their own secrets and interesting stories.

House with three official addresses

House No. 16 is rightfully considered unique, noisy and restless. First of all, we note that he actually has three official addresses. This:

  1. directly: Deribasovskaya 16;

  2. Ekaterininskaya 14;

  3. but the house also faces Lanzheronovskaya Street.

So, three official addresses appeared at one house at once.

Some historical facts

The history of the house is very rich and unique. It can be safely called directly the history of Odessa itself.

This house housed the Richelieu Lyceum. Just look at the plaques nailed to the wall! Such bright minds as Mendeleev, Mitskevich, Philip Brun, Christian Gasshagen and so on taught here, and they still remember them.

Prominent figures not only from Odessa, but also from the whole country studied in this lyceum. One can single out such figures as Pyotr Gagarin, Prince Semyon Vorontsov, Grigory Marazli, etc.

Among the guests of the lyceum, it is worth noting the emperors Alexander I and Nicholas I. There were such poets and writers as Pushkin, Adam Mitskevich (he was generally settled in the lyceum to live), Batyushkov, Zhukovsky, Senkovsky and Polonsky.

What has survived to this day?

Along the laurel slabs, we immediately find ourselves in 4 courtyards. Exactly. They are located in one place and give the house a special uniqueness and charm. There are remnants of a flower bed fence, where a beautiful fountain was and worked. By the way, he acted even in the most difficult Soviet times and at the dawn of Ukraine's independence (terrible 90s). But alas, it is already difficult for him to survive our harsh everyday life.

A new legend about Lenin

Not far from the fountain, we see a pedestal. Yes, it belongs to the monument to Vladimir Ilyich. He stood there for a long time. When the troubled times came, it was filmed. According to one version. The monument itself was carefully removed from the pedestal. One citizen of Odessa took it and hid it in ... a transformer box! Yes, that's right, in Odessa they honor and love history. Especially your own. Unfortunately, Lenin was found, and he went missing. Now the fate of the monument is covered with darkness.

Thus, it is not in vain that house number 16, located at three addresses, including Deribasovskaya, can truly be considered a witness to the history of Odessa. He saw many famous and great people. They wrote about him. The Lyceum was mentioned in books and poems by great poets. Odessa generally conceals a lot of secrets and interesting stories. If you are interested, I will tell stories about Odessa and the Odessa region.
