The surreal beauty of lake Gurudongmar and the glacier that feeds it, in the eastern region of Himalayas in Sikkim.
Gurudongmar lake is considered one of the holiest lakes in Sikkim. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava, who is credited to have introduced Buddhism to Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan and Sikkim, visited Gurudongmar lake first when he landed in the fabled land of Sikkim.
He was moved by the complaints of locals who told him about lack of water during winters as the lake freezes. It's believed that he blessed the mouth of the lake that feeds the river Teesta in such a way that it never froze after that, not even on winters, keeping the water flow intact.
