In the culture of Tibetan Buddhism, color symbolism is very important. Each color corresponds to one of five psychophysical elements: earth (yellow), water (green), fire (red), air (white) and space (blue). Each living creature, like any object of the physical world, consists of these basic primary elements. On a spiritual level, they correspond to the five families of Buddhas, the five types of wisdom, or the five aspects of an enlightened mind.
The symbolism of these flowers is used everywhere in all areas of Tibetan life, but most often they can be found on prayer flags. Colored flags with images and mantras printed on them are found everywhere in Tibet and the Himalayas. It is believed that the wind waving flags voices the mantras, and the surrounding elements of nature and beings find harmony.
