Fontana del Tritone is in the center of Piazza Barberini. It is Bernini's creation from 1643 that placed it here by order of Pope Urban VIII Barberini. It is made of travertine and represents 4 dolphins holding a newt. Not to be confused with the Fontana dei Tritoni, which is in the Bocca della Verita square.
Fountains of Piazza delle Quatro Fontane, are 4 fountains located in the 4 corners of the intersection of Via Quirinale and Via delle Quatro Fontane, in front of the church of the same name. They are representations of: Tiber River, Diana, Juno and Arno River.
The Trevi Fountain is a combination of a fountain with the facade of a building and is definitely the most spectacular fountain in Rome. Its construction was begun in 1732 by Nicola Salvi, for Pope Clement XII. It was inaugurated in 1762 and is the place that attracts the most tourists in Rome. It is the last great baroque creation of Rome and represents an ocean palace (it is actually the facade of the Poli Palace) from which emerge mythological figures that then sink into the ocean water. It is said that if you throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain, you will surely return to Rome, if you throw 2 you will fall in love or someone will fall in love with you and if you throw 3 coins you will get married or divorce. Probably a lot of people have serious emotional problems because the place around the fountain is not enough for the army of people who crowd here and throw coins. Every morning the water of the fountain is stopped for the municipality to "collect" the coins thrown in the previous day and it seems that the average amount collected daily is about 2000 of euro. I will not say how many coins I threw, because it is my secret, I will only say that here and I was sorry that I do not have a professional camera, the overall picture with the fountain having a clearer.
Fountains in Piazza Navona. I must confess that Piazza Navona is the place I liked and fascinated most in Rome. Leaving aside the fact that she is also suffocated by tourists, it is a magnificent place, where you can find painters, caricaturists and traveling artists who all work here or exhibit their works and who especially has a special rhythm and life. The square of the square is a copy of the Stadium Domitian, and the buildings that surround it are located exactly on the place where the stadium seats used to be. The market is highlighted by 3 magnificent fountains. In the middle of the square sits an obelisk based on the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the 4 Rivers), Bernini's creation from 1651 for Pope Innocent X. The 4 rivers personified by Bernini are: the Nile, the Ganges, the Danube and the Rio de la Plata, which pours water into the pool where fantastic marine animals swim.
Because my imagination is too poor to describe the beauty of these fountains, I will translate a phrase from my guide that perfectly captures it: “Bernini found the Solution in which the spontaneity of the infinitely varied world, pulsating with life, is in absolute harmony with perfection and the abstract form of the divine. ” On either side of Bernini's fountain there are 2 more: Fontana del Moro whose sculptural group is also made by Bernini in a pool of Della Porta and Fontana del Netuno which the whole is the creation of Della Porta.
Now that I finished their description I realized that I wrote about 10 of them, so I inadvertently made a Top Ten of the most beautiful fountains in Rome, in the order of my preferences, finishing with the most remarkable, on the 10th place.
