I don't really know how Italian sculptures and marbles have reached British museum...But i know for sure how Greek sculptures and marbles have reached british museum...

Thanks to Lord Elgin when Greece was occupied by the ottoman empire

At that time parthenon temple was secured by turkish military, lord Elgin took advantage of the times and literally abused the 1/3 of the temple with the help of the ottomans.

He claimed that he had a document (they called "firman") that sultan was able to give at the times as a special favour
that special favour was ussually given to artists in order to access the temple,

although that document Elgin was never able to present it later.

He loaded those marbles in ships and shiped them to Britain.
some of the historical marbles

sank into the sea and what was left of them Elgin sold them to the British Goverment.

Since then Greece is fighting to get these marbles back as they are part of it's culture and it's ancestors.

These are some of the stolen sculptures
