Today I want to take you to the Museo del Vetro or Glass Museum in Murano. Murano is a small island in Venice. It is small but very beautiful and historic. The island of Murano is very well-known for its long tradition of glass-making. Therefore, many people take a ferry and come to that island.
About Museo del Vetro
Before showing you the photo I want to tell you about I would like to tell you a couple of words about the museum itself.
The museum building itself has a very long and rich history. Around 6 centuries ago it was a residence of the bishops of Torcello. In the 19th century, the building was sold to the Murano Municipality and became the town hall. Then in 1861 part of the building was dedicated to the museum. But the museum collection was growing up rapidly, and as a result of it, the whole building became a museum.
Therefore, the museum building by itself is already a big part of the exhibition.
Museo del Vetro tells people about the long history of glass in Italy, in Venice. There are a lot of glass works created by different famous designers. Each work is so unique and beautiful. Glass industry is one of the unique things about Italy.
A scary fish
There is a garden inside the museum. And there is a pond with a huge fish. I don't think that fish is made of glass too, it looks like a metal fish. The size of the fish is more than 2 meters, I guess. And I should confess, I was really scared of it and I couldn't get close to it. Thanks my camera has a zoom, so I captured that fish standing afar.
Seriously, it looks so realistic and creepy!
