Yesterday was very busy and eventful.
We arrived by ferry in Rio Marina, a town with a delightful marina, framed by pastel-colored houses.
We got off with the luggage and we took a taxi to get to the house where we will sleep until Saturday. The stop was extremely fast, just enough time to put down the bags and put on the costume. We then ran to the beach of Cavo, wonderful and just a few kilometers from Rio Elba, reachable in about twenty minutes by car.
I share the photos of the beach and the sea: I would say that they are more than enough to describe the wonder of this place. Any other word would risk reducing its wonder.
On this first day we deluded ourselves that we could travel without the car, but we immediately surrendered to reality: public transport - organized and punctual - does not have enough rides to meet our needs, especially in the late afternoon and in the evening. The bus stop is also very far from our house, and the only supermarket in the area is over half an hour's walk from Rio Elba (with a lot of tiring climbs on the way back). In fact, the last bus useful to return leaves before 21, and although we do not intend to have a great nightlife, we hoped at least to be able to give ourselves a pizza and a drink in peace at least in Portoferraio or Porto Azzurro. In short, we have organized ourselves to rent a car starting from Thursday.
The bus stop far away from Rio nell'Elba still allowed us to have a delightful image of this country from afar, made up of narrow streets, many of which are completely absent from maps and google maps. In Rio Elba there is a pharmacy (which also sells food for dogs and cats), a bakery, two cafeteria, a tobacconist and two restaurants.
For this evening we decided to have dinner in the area, as fatigue was very high. A nice breeze got up before dinner, and I ended up wearing a sweater after months.

La giornata di ieri è stata decisamente impegnativa e movimentata.
Siamo arrivati con il traghetto a Rio Marina, una cittadina con un porticciolo delizioso, incorniciato da casette color pastello.
Scesi con i bagagli, abbiamo preso un taxi per arrivare alla casa in cui dormiremo fino a Sabato. La sosta è stata estremamente veloce, giusto il tempo di posare i bagagli e indossare il costume. Siamo quindi corsi alla volta della spiaggia di Cavo, meravigliosa e distante pochi chilometri da Rio Elba, raggiungibile in una ventina di minuti di macchina.
Condivido le foto della spiaggia e del mare: direi che sono più che sufficienti per descrivere la meraviglia di questo posto. Qualsiasi altra parola rischierebbe di ridurne la meraviglia.
In questo primo giorno ci siamo illusi di poter fare a meno della macchina, ma subito ci siamo arresi alla realtà: i mezzi di trasporto pubblici - organizzati e puntuali - non hanno abbastanza corse per soddisfare le nostre necessità, soprattutto nelle ore del tardo pomeriggio e della sera. La fermata dell'autobus è inoltre decisamente distante dalla nostra casetta, e l'unico supermercato della zona dista oltre mezz'ora a piedi da Rio Elba (con tanto ovviamente di salite faticose al ritorno). L'ultimo autobus utile per rientrare parte infatti prima delle 21, e per quanto noi non intendiamo fare una grande movida, speravamo almeno di poterci concedere una pizza e un drink in tranquillità almeno a Portoferraio o Porto Azzurro. Insomma, ci siamo organizzati per noleggiare una macchina a partire da Giovedì.
La fermata distante da Rio nell'Elba ci ha comunque permesso di avere una deliziosa immagine da lontano di questo paese, fatto tutto di stradine, molte delle quali del tutto assenti dalle mappe e da google maps. A Rio Elba è presente una Farmacia (che vende anche cibo per cani e gatti), un panificio, due bar, un tabaccaio, due ristoranti.
Per questa sera abbiamo deciso di cenare in zona, visto che la stanchezza era ormai elevata. Un bel venticello si è alzato già prima di cena, ed ho finito con l'indossare un golfino dopo mesi.
