Con questa foto partecipo al Contest The Best Photo Italy – week 77

Questa settimana condivo una foto di Piazza della Repubblica a Roma.

Una piazza scenografica un tempo chiamata Piazza Esedra perché costruita su una esedra delle Terme di Diocleziano, ancora oggi visibile dal colonnato dei palazzi che incorniciano la piazza.

Al centro la Fontana delle Naiadi da cui sgorga l’Acqua Marcia, proveniente dall’acquedotto romano risalente al 144 A.C. lo stesso che portava l’acqua alle terme!

L’attuale impostazione della piazza risale alla fine del 1800 con la perfetta posizione centrale della fontana in asse con lo sfondo di Via Nazionale!

With this photo I participate in The Best Photo Italy Contest - week 77

This week I share a photo of Piazza della Repubblica in Rome.

A scenic square once called Piazza Esedra because it was built on an exedra of the Baths of Diocletian, still visible from the colonnade of the buildings that frame the square.

In the centre is the Fountain of the Naiads from which the Acqua Marcia flows, coming from the Roman aqueduct dating back to 144 BC, the same one that brought water to the baths!

The current layout of the square dates back to the late 1800s with the perfect central position of the fountain in axis with the backdrop of Via Nazionale!
