My first time visiting Maigaiti County in Xinjiang has been unforgettable, especially for the amazingly affordable prices here. Skewers are only 8 yuan each, and delicious baked buns are just 3 yuan apiece!
I visited El Humar, a local fast-food spot recommended by a friend. It’s a hidden gem – filled with locals and hardly any tourists, even at 3 PM when it was still bustling with diners. Maigaiti County is famous for its Maigaiti grey dates, which are widely cultivated in the area. The town is home to three main attractions: N39 Desert Park, Daolang Painting Village, and Daolang Thousand Islands Lake.
However, I’m just passing through on my way to Zepu to see the autumn poplars, a sight I’ve long wanted to experience. While I didn't get to explore Maigaiti's scenic spots, I truly enjoyed its unique, local atmosphere and warm hospitality.
From the friendly locals to the cozy, authentic eateries, Maigaiti offers an immersive experience in Xinjiang’s rich culture.
