The second largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily, Sardinia, Italy, covers an area of approximately 24,000 square kilometers.
The northeastern corner of Sardinia is close to the mainland of Italy. From Civitavecchia to the west of Rome, take a ferry to the port of Sardinia-Olbia in the northeast corner of the island. The journey time is about 7.5 hours. The south is across the sea from Tunisia on the African continent, while the east on the south is facing Trapani, Sicily. Oristano, a city on the central west coast, is parallel to Menorca, the easternmost island of Spain. The south is across the sea from Bonifacio on the French island of Corsica, separated by the Strait of Bonifacio. The ferry time is only one hour, and the opposite shore is usually seen.
I wanted to come here at this time last year. Due to time, I changed to Malta, an island country in the Mediterranean. This year, I finally made a trip and successfully completed my self-drive in Sardinia.
On the evening of January 24, 2014, I flew to Rome from Athens, Greece, and then flew to Rome with a domestic friend to complete the car rental formalities, and then went straight to the port of Civitavecchia.
I had already successfully purchased the ferry ticket online. It was a first-class cabin for two people, but when I arrived on the ship, I was arranged in a four-person room (but no other passengers were arranged). I immediately questioned, but I was told that the rooms are all. Same, no other people will be arranged to live with us. The 2-person room gives us 2 rooms, and the quadruple room still gives us 2 rooms.
From the start of boarding, except for Italian, nothing else works well. During the whole trip, I feel that there are very few people who understand English except for the hotel! Although my English is not good enough, the Italians here are not much better than me, and most of them don't speak at all.
At 07:00 on the 25th, the ship arrived in Olbia, a port city on the east side of northern Sardinia. At that time, it was still pitch black, there were almost no vehicles on the streets, and no pedestrians were seen.
On the way from the pier to the city, we found that this place is beautiful from the only bright light. When the camera shutter was pressed for the first time here, the sunrise hadn't started yet! Then I accidentally entered the best place to watch the sunrise here, and also saw the first local resident, a man on a tripod preparing to shoot the sunrise.
Olbia is located in the Gulf of Olbia, which extends from the Mediterranean Sea into the northern part of Sardinia. There are countless small islands and numerous reefs in the bay. Although the city is small, with a population of just over 20,000, it has all the functions of the city reform. The layout of the city also feels more refined. Unlike Rome, although the houses here are not high in floors, there are still two different houses. Over 20 high-rise buildings.

The leisure plazas for local residents are mainly concentrated in the port area of the bay. There are the most open plazas and green spaces in the city. It is also a good place for fishing and a dock for private yachts. Although it is around the city, the sea is clean and clear, and there is no slight pollution.

The temperature in Olbia is not low, the lowest this season is 5 degrees, but you can still see a small amount of snow on the top of the mountain in the northwest corner of the city.
From the very few buildings, we can see that this is also an old city, but in its center, there is a huge steel frame glass roof with a strong sense of modern design. It is actually a bit nondescript, but this is the only one. The alternative is here but it feels very special!
Port of Olbia
As a seaside city, the natural scenery here is still very good and it is worth a visit. I even think that there is not enough time. If I have the opportunity to go again, maybe I will arrange an extra day. What can be seen inside the city is obviously not as good as those well-known cities in Italy!
