Last night, the Russians launched at least five types of missiles from various platforms at Odessa region: "Kalibr," "Oniks," X-22, Iskander-K, and ballistic Iskander-M missiles. Significant portions of the missiles were intercepted and destroyed by the air defense systems.
The remaining missiles caused damage to the port infrastructure and at least six residential buildings, including multi-story houses. Dozens of cars were damaged, facades and roofs were affected, and windows were shattered. One of the central squares in Odessa suffered a hit from a Russian missile, damaging the Saint Transfiguration Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, a UNESCO cultural heritage site.
Additionally, two architectural landmarks were affected.
Several craters formed across the city, and power lines were severed, potentially impacting transportation. The route of public transportation is expected to be altered due to the damage caused. There are dead and wounded, including children. Their number is yet to be determined.
What depths of evil will we still witness, and how long will Ukraine continue to stand alone against Russia?
Many Ukrainians would probably wish for another country to fully join us in the fight against the aggressors.
However, that won't happen, and we must rely on our own endurance. Looking back at World War II, we see that Britain resisted Nazi Germany on its own for the first two years. The USA didn't fully support even its "motherland" until it was personally attacked at Pearl Harbor in 1941. Similarly, until the "rooster is fried," Western partners will continue expressing concern and providing inadequate military support. But in this regard, we are in a much better position than Britain was in 1939-1940, as they had even less support. Yet, they stood strong. And so will Ukraine.
I believe.
