Pocholo siempre ha sido muy glotón, este año cumple 4 años, siempre note que tenia muy mal aliento, pero no le di mayor importancia, pero un día en el que fue a darles de comer el mostraba tener mucha hambre, pero al momento de servirle no comió, eso me hizo ruido y decidí llevarlo al veterinario, ese día conocí o supe de la existencia de la Gingivitis Felina.

Primero lo primero ¿qué es la gingivitis? La gingivitis en gatos es la inflamación y sangrado de las encías. Es una de las enfermedades dentales más comunes en mininos. Además, es más frecuente en algunas razas como somali, abisina y siamés, Pocholo es un siamés y por el descubrí la existencia de esta enfermedad y por ello me vi obligada a investigar más al respecto.
Un dato curioso para los que no lo sabían es que los gatos poseen 30 dientes y , al ser cazadores y carnívoros natos, esta parte de su anatomía es importante para alimentarse, asearse, especialmente si son gatos que tienen acceso al exterior, gatos comunitarios o en condición de calle.

En dos oportunidades me vi obligada a llevar a Pocholo a consulta veterinaria por esta enfermedad en la primera de ellas recetaron enrrofloxacina y dexametasona, además de limpieza con un enjuague bucal de nombre comercial Peridont. Al no incluir en su dieta algún alimento que ayudará a limpiar de su encía y dientes la placa y sarro, el problema continuo, el mal aliento no desapareció y a los pocos meses volvimos al veterinario, en esa oportunidad le recetaron otro antibiótico de nombre Ampicilima Sulbantan, además de un protector gástrico, ranitidina para proteger su estómago, antinflamatorio y limpieza de sus encías.
Es muy importante y quiero hacer énfasis en ello, si observas cualquiera de estos síntomas, lleva a tu gato al veterinario, él te indicará, luego de la respectiva evaluación que debes hacer.

En Pocholo la combinación de ingerir solo dieta blanda y su predisposición por ser siamés, lo llevaron a sufrir esta enfermedad, al incluir gatarina y algunos huesos blandos como pescuezo y patas de pollo en su dieta, además de limpiar varios días a la semana su encía con Peridont, su salud dental ha mejorado notablemente, su encía se ve de color rosa y no tiene mal aliento.
