Delta Force

Delta Force was one of the first FPS games that I've played when I first got a PC, for some of you the name "Delta Force" might ring some bells, probably from movies if not from their old series.

Previously the series brought us joy with the following games:

  • Delta Force in 1998
  • Delta Force 2 in 1999
  • Delta Force: Land Warrior in 2000
  • Delta Force: Task Force Dagger in 2002
  • Delta Force: Urban Warfare in 2002
  • Delta Force: Black Hawk Down in 2003
  • Delta Force: Black Hawk Down – Team Sabre in 2004
  • Delta Force: Xtreme in 2005
  • Delta Force: Xtreme 2 in 2009
  • Delta Force Angel Falls announced but never released
  • Delta Force in 2024

The games mentioned above were all released in multiple platforms over the years, PlayStation, Xbox, Windows, Mac, even for mobile. Out of these I think the Black Hawk Dawn is the one that I've spent the most hours in, I was young, barely knew any English, so it took me ages to finish missions and understand what to do.

Now let's get to today's Delta Force, the game was released as a closed beta with invites only a couple of months ago, and even though I kept trying to get an invite, I didn't manage to...

Starting with the first week of December the game is free for everyone to play so I gave it a chance as it is pretty similar to the Battlefield series I always enjoyed.

If you want to give it a try you can find more details about the game below:

Description
Delta Force is back! The iconic series returns as the definitive free-to-play modern team-based tactical shooter and featuring three distinct gameplay modes: large-scale PvP warfare, intense extraction shooter action, and a remake of the legendary Black Hawk Down campaign.
The description is taken from their official Steam page

You can find the Steam page here, and also if you are not really decided to try it you can also take a look at the people's review.

In the following lines I will try to explain the basics of the game as I understood them so far, how the game feels and my personal opinion about it so far.

The current state of the game doesn't allow you to play every mode but still there's enough to explore.

In terms of what you can play at the moment we have these modes, each one with a couple of maps.

When joining a battle you can pick one of these operators, each one comes with it's unique gadgets, and each one can influence the battle one way or another. Some of them you get from the start, the other ones you unlock through achievements and events.

Two operators for each class, and there are 4 classes as it follows:

About weapons, the game brings a diversity of weapons, automatic, semi-automatic, pistols, you won't even know what to choose, and you also have to earn xp and level up your account you unlock more weapons. Also the match offers vehicles and helicopters.

I know this might sound bad but Delta Force feels like the retarded brother of Battlefield 2042, the game still needs so many updates and fixes, the movement feels weird and weapons glitchy at times, the game is still new and patches will fix this in the future.

I also recorded a gameplay, I will leave it down below:

Let's also check some scenes from the gameplay:

Hitting an enemy vehicle with an "RPG", it didn't explode but at least made them retreat

Moments later they pushed again trying to flank us but somehow I managed to take them down, there were two of them in the SUV rushing.

And another one not long after. I never get to destroy vehicles but somehow this match I got 2 or 3.

Some sniper shots, these feel so rewarding, the bullet has almost no bullet drop and hitting heads is pretty easy even with the default sniper.

And a rifle kill plus some enemy damage.

I have played in total like 10 matches, not sure if I will continue to play it in the current state, I will give it more tries once it gets further updates, the current meta of weapons is too imbalanced, people hitting headshots from too far with SMGs and it breaks the fun you could have in a match. If you are playing sniper you are safe. One thing I know for sure that after playing it I want to go back and play some Battlefield 2042.

If you don't have anything to play at the moment, and you enjoy FPS games you should give it a try, the game being free you got nothing to lose. Also if you tried it leave you opinion down below, I am curious if it's just me that says the game still needs to be polished.

Until next episode, I am wishing you a great day!

Thanks for leveling up with me! 🎮
