Red Dead Redemption - This Town Ain’t Big Enough for My Bad Gameplay - Part 1

Red Dead Redemption, the second game in the series after Red Dead Revolver. It follows the story of John Marston during the early 1900s who's been sent to the American West to serve the law and redeem himself, he needs to kill or capture his old gang members otherwise his family will pay the price.

The story starts with the main character being escorted off a ship by two bureau agents.

These two agents escort John to the Black Water's train station where he is embarked to New Austin.

During the train ride, the game shows you different characters from that wagon talking about what's happening in the west, like people lost the land but they've got access to heaven, or how they lived like animals but are happier now, it's a cool intro.

The train arrives at the Armadillo Station and here the gameplay starts, from this point I was able to control the character, let's see where this takes us.

The first hint was to go to the saloon, I was supposed to meet someone there.

In the saloon we meet Jake, who was paid by the bureau to take me to the Fort Mercer, the place where my former ally Bill Williamson "hides".

Now we get to ride the horse with Jake, the game explains the controls and we are put right to following Jake.

While getting pretty close to the Fort Mercer, Jake stops and tells me this is how far he can take me, from now on I am on my own. I approach the fort's gate screaming Bill's name, but to my surprise he wasn't alone.

Well the talking didn't do much and in my attempt to get the pistol out of the holster I am getting shot by one Billy's friends.

My body was left there laid on the ground for hours maybe even days, a vulture was waiting for my end so he could feast. Luckily a cart/wagon with a couple passed by and took by body home. Judging from their approach and weapons, they surely knew this place was dangerous and they needed to take me with great precaution.

The story continues we me in an unknown room, laying in bed severely injured, I am bandaged and the lady that rescued me enters the room being amazed that I am alive. I've been unconscious for several days, the doctor had to take out a couple of bullets out of me. She continues the talking calling me stupid for being around the fort and introduces herself as Bonnie MacFarlane.

Since I am feeling better she invites me to patrol the perimeter with her later so I could earn her the money back, money she spent for my recovery. Once we meet again Bonnie, she is giving me a tour of the ranch, we ride the horses around the yard where she explains me each area/building what is used for. We get back to her house after the tour and I fall asleep on a comfortable chair right beside her house's entrance.

It's evening I am being waked up by her telling me about the issues they have around the ranch, she gives me a weapon and we each grab a horse and start a patrol around.

It's that time of the game where you learn how to shoot, we found rabbits into the ranch's crops and Bonnie asks me to help her clean the crops.

With the crops saved we continue the patrol and we find coyotes on the property, here I am helping Bonnie kill the coyotes so she doesn't lose that many animals from the farm.

After the fierce battle with the coyotes we are returning home and I am heading to sleep. In this game sleeping fast forwards the game by 6 hours. After sleeping we wake up and it's early in the morning and we pay a visit to Bonnie. Here we talk about why she thinks I am a city boy and I am not made for this which in the end results in a horse race with her.

I am not sure if this is meant to be lost or not, all I know is that I am not being used with the controls and my horse bugged itself at one point, he also kicked me down and I lost the race by far.

With the ego hurt and a race lost the game allows us to roam around the farm again, with no time to waste we visit Bonnie again to check what she has prepared for us next. It looks like we are taking a cart to Armadillo because she needs to grab some supplies, and she also suggested I should check with Marshal. So here we are traveling again...

Once in Armadillo while Bonnie is doing some shopping I am getting some medicine from the doctor, the medicine will be free courtesy of Bonnie first time. After reuniting with Bonnie she goes back to the ranch while I remain here to explore Armadillo.

On my way to Marshal I hear someone shouting something stupid after me, I get closer to the guy and it's a duel invite. The duel was won, I am the main character I never lose :D.

Now that we won the first duel, let's continue our way to Marshal. Here the atmosphere gets heated we are getting close to a gun fight when the real Marshal steps inside and we have a talk. He explains how he is pretty occupied with plenty of things around and can't really help me but I offered my help so he could solve some of his problems.

The first problem we are handling is related to hoods from the saloon, I need to accompany Marshal there and help him solve the problem.

When we are almost there, we find our "problem" outside walking towards his horse, we sneak and wait patiently for him to leave so we can follow and see where he leads us to.

We follow him close to the old Pleasance House, from here we are on foot trying to sneak silently... But someone notices us and the shooting show begins.

Me and Marshal clean the area pushing towards the house, it looks like they were prepared, and our boy wasn't alone here, it almost felt like a trap. We manage to kill everyone and a prompt let's me know I can take him dead or alive so I shoot him in the leg to be able to take him alive.

We can call it "mission accomplished", from here I wanted to go back to Marshal and see what else he has in mind. On my way there I found some bandits stealing from someone and without even knowing I joined the fight.

Because the shooting took me by surprise I almost got killed, somehow luckily on low health I managed to take them fast down. At least I got to loot them and earn some money and ammo from their corpses.

Now back to riding, Marshal awaits me. Called my horse and on the road again, but the action wouldn't stop here, I got back in town right before Marshal's door when some guys went crazy by me screaming and shooting. In my head I was, oh bandits, here we go again and I started shooting, took them by surprise.

Got them, earned some fame and honor, again looted some money and went to Marshal. During my talk with him a deputy rushes inside screaming in full panic mode that he saw the Bollard Twins and some Mexicans in the canyon. So we packed some guns and ammo, prepared the horses and up to the road again, heading to the canyon.

A long ride I could say, we got to the entrance of the canyon, from here on we were on foot. As we were moving through the canyon at a road split the Bollard Gang was waiting for us, bullets flying, people shooting, here we go again.

This was one bloody mission, we fought a small group, advanced, met another group from the gang and so on a couple of times as we were going deeper and deeper into the canyon.

All this until we found their "home" a flat zone where people were being kept hostages, I think the gang was stealing cattle from the hostages, we wiped the gang here and freed everyone. Now that we helped Marshal I think he will help us with Williamson.

That was if for my first part of the Red Dead Redemption, many more to come.
