In the open-world RPG Cyberpunk 2077, players will encounter a number of different life paths, in the latest video CD Projekt Red shows off some of the narrative for the action-adventure. It previewed two different lives, one focusing on the past memories as a Nomad, reminiscing of better days. While another looks into the more dangerous side to the Night City, into the Arasaka corporation, where things don’t look particularly above board.
Life Paths
The video shows a couple of different life paths players can pursue, offering just a taste of what the story will entail. There will be three different life paths Street Kid gaining streetwise skills, Nomad with the history of having a nomadic family living out in the desert, or Corpo which gives you an edge in the business world maybe offering an upper hand when it comes to negotiation, or gaining some info by reading people. Each have their own advantages, and from what was shown in the trailer downsides too.
While Life Paths are chosen at the beginning of the game, throughout your playthrough they will offer opportunities that stem from that choice. These offer optional dialogue and even quests, which give the player plenty of choices to help shape their story.
Weapons
The stream also took a look at some of the weapons your character V will have access to in the game. This includes the tech weapon Tsunami Nekomata, a semi-automatic which is chargeable and works as a sniper rifle. There is also the TKI-20 Shingen which has burst fire and the option for micro guided missile which looks to be unlockable with a smart link.
If you’re looking for melee, then you’ll be pleased to know there is a Thermal Katana, which does exactly what you’d expect, cuts through like a knife through butter. If you’re looking for first weapons, well there there are the Mantis Blades which are actually part of you, coming out from the wrists, they were also shown in some of the first promotion images for Cyberpunk 2077. You also choose Gorilla Arms which is a prosthetic arm which gives some real power added to your punch. Then there is Cyberware which offers a selection of warheads which can be fired from your hands.
In a recent interview with VG247, the senior gameplay designer Pawel Kapala covered a little about melee combat, in which he said that there is still some work to be done. They are still looking to perfect how it works, creating a smooth performance experience for close combat.
We’re still a couple of months before release, and I’m actually right now working on melee. We’re spending a lot of time trying to perfect that, and we basically, we’re not 100 percent happy, mostly with visual feedback on the hits, on the melee. So, we’re still working on it.
Kapala also shares that Cyberpunk 2077 is first and foremost an RPG, so implementing shooter elements into the game has been quite the challenge getting the look and feel of firing a weapon. As the player progresses throughout the game, their character progress also improves weapon handling. This quite different from what we’ve seen the in The Witcher 3, and will be very interesting how it will looked when everything is finalised.
Cyperpunk 2077 will be releasing on November 19th for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. Plus PS4 and Xbox One versions will be backwards compatible with PS5 and Xbox Series X. It will also be arriving on Stadia sometime after launch.
