I couldn't be much more thankful to God as well as the government officials governing the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or Philhealth because they had made another enhancement to the benefit package for dialysis patients in particular and this enhancement is about paying the cost of dialysis treatment per session from two-thousand six hundred 2.6K PHP to four-thousand 4K PHP. It definitely means that every dialysis patient with Philhealth or using Philhealth for their dialysis session will no longer have to pay the copay and other related fess regarding their dialysis treatments. This is just truly another gift from God to me, my parents, and the rest of my dialysis compatriots here in my country because it feels like a thousand needles are pulled from our chests regarding our need to pay extra despite of most of the cost are shouldered by Philhealth and thereby freeing the patients from the burden of paying per every dialysis session that they get.
This thing will make dialysis patients either go to a much better dialysis center regardless that if it is in the hospital which requires patients to pay for bigger copay because the said dialysis patients will not anymore get burdened by the copay and other fees which includes laboratory test results for a proper monitoring of the patient's state of health so that the Nephrologists to asses more and can take action in order to prevent complications in happening. It also includes the freedom of not paying dialyzers anymore which are really hefty to buy simply because it would cost the patient to pay about 2,200 PhPesos at least every month aside from paying another fee if they would opt-in to use a high flux dialyzer like me so it will definitely make the patients save money to use for other things for themselves and their families. The package of benefits also includes that the patients can avail EPO injections which most patients require to have in order to raise their body's red blood cell count. It is because the Erythropoietin hormone which signals the bone marrow to produce red blood cells is coming from the Kidneys and so if the Kidneys fails, this crucial hormone would also fail to get excreted which is why the patient would suffer anemia which could kill them if they would not get transfused with blood or not get the injection of EPO in order to correct the level of red blood cells in their blood and the Hemoglobin with it as well.
Basically the treatment session will be totally free to the utmost relief of patients and also for the benefit of every dialysis treatment providers because they will be empowered more to give a better service for their patients because of the upgraded benefits from Philhealth which will cover all of the patient's needs including the burden of paying the doctor's professional fees which also another burden which is now made light because of the better coverage for paying the cost of every treatment session. However I am still waiting for the implementation of this good news from our dialysis clinic and when they finally receive a "Memo" from Philhealth, every patient finally will feel a great sigh of relief and I can't imagine how happy all of us will get when that happens and it might happen tomorrow or the next days because it has been approved already yesterday.
