At one time, my family and I passed through Lancok Ie Leubeu road in Pidie and Pidie Jaya Regencies. We saw the tradition of pulling new fishing boats into the sea when we arrived at the Jeumeurang Fish Landing Site (TPI). We don't want to miss this tradition.

We stopped and went straight to where the fishermen's new boat would be pulled to sea. This withdrawal process is carried out manually even though it uses a beko or excavator.

The manual, I mean, is that the fishermen still use coconut leaf fronds placed under the fishing boats. Of course, coconut leaf fronds are used in large quantities.

First, the coconut leaf lining is placed in front of the ship. Then, the boat was towed using an excavator. This new ship will move along with the pull of the beko through the coconut leaf fronds. The function of coconut leaf fronds is to make it easier to pull the boat.

It took a long time to tow this new ship manually, not to mention the work of excavators who had to dredge sand to make way for ships. Even until we left the place, the ship had not been banned.

Of course, after our departure, the ship was successfully banned. The time it took, of course, was because it is still very manual to ban it. It is necessary to think of another way that is easier and faster.

Banning new fishing boats began with a religious and traditional ceremony in Aceh. First, the people prayed. Then, the ship owner provided yellow glutinous rice, as is customary in Aceh.

The residents who helped ban this ship were not paid. The ship owner pays for only excavator services. This tradition of cooperation is still maintained in Aceh, especially in the villages. Hopefully, this tradition will continue to survive.
