Myself and a photographer friend were chatting recently and he was telling me a few of his clients have become fairly big names in recent years.
He primarily shoots with Irish actors and actresses and a few of them have now made pretty big names for themselves in big productions, actors such as Paul Mescal (Normal People, Rolling Stones video) and Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, Peaky Blinders).
That got me thinking, I don't often shoot with actors or actresses as they mostly get headshots from photographers like my friend who specialize in that stuff. However I have on occasion got bookings to shoot headshots for various actors/actresses. I was wondering if many of them had gone on to feature in anything I knew.
I looked up a few names on IMDB and pretty quickly found an actor I had shot with was regularly in Game Of Thrones. Now to be fair, it looked he only had a few small parts, like soldiers in the large battle scenes etc but thats still more than a lot have done.
I actually quite like the headshots I took for him too. They're simple but I've heard it said many times that simple is best for headshots. Casting directors seemingly aren't interested in how fancy the photograph looks, they just a simple clean image of the actor to get a feel for how they actually look, so thats exactly what I did 😊
