Good Intentions, Time and Practical Matters

Sometimes I envy those who go to a "job" at some set time every day and end up with some set amount of money at the end of the week, or month, or whatever.

Periodically, people ask me if there's anything I regret about being self-employed... and really the only thing I can think of is the financial instability of never knowing whether I will have made $50 by the end of the week, or $500.

And when it has been $50 for a few weeks in a row, I do find myself wishing I had a "regular" job to fall back on.

The thing about certain kinds of self-employment is that they are typically not very practical in a world where everything pretty much runs on a fixed schedule.

For example, the electric company doesn't care that I make 3x more money during some months than other. They just need their money. Case closed.

One of the things that's often said about self-employment is that "your time is your own." Whereas that may hold true — to an extent — it also holds true that when you're facing slow times, your only real way to compensate for shortfalls is work extra hours.

And that's where "time" and practicality comes in.

You might have good intentions to get a lot of things done for your work, but you still have the normal periphery and infrastructure of life to deal with... from going to the supermarket to going to the doctor.

You can't just blow that stuff off, just because you have a busy schedule!

Lately, I've had a lot of good intentions to keep up with my blog, but the fact that (a) the crypto markets are in the toilet and (b) I am desperately trying to play catch-up with some outstanding bills means that I just haven't been able to justify spending the time on writing.

It's not for lack of wanting to... but it's just not practical, in the tangible world in which we live!

So it's actually a little bit of a "luxury" for me to sneak a little time — after midnight — to put together a small update before I crash into bed and try to get some rest before getting up again tomorrow and doing it all over.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by, and have a great Sunday!

How about you? Do you sometimes get "too busy" to keep up with your blog, or other favorite activities? Leave a comment if you feel so inclined — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
