Reflection: Houseguests Are Fun — for a While!

A young friend of Mrs. Denmarkguy's came to stay with us for a few days.

Actually — to be completely accurate — a young friend and her somewhat boisterous dog came to stay with us for three days.

In this day and age, the whole idea of having a houseguest feels slightly odd; we have gotten so used to travel restrictions social distancing and all that.

It was aforesaid friend's 20th birthday on Monday, and she wanted to get away from her somewhat controlling family for the occasion...

The stay was pleasant enough, even though the fairly large dog made the whole affair somewhat "higher maintenance" than we had expected. That said, it really also served as a reminder of just how used to being by ourselves we've gotten.

Nothing against our friend — she was a pretty low-key houseguest — but there's something about the background energy of a place that changes when there's a new person in it; even someone you quite like.

It's not made easier by the fact that both Mrs. Denmarkguy and I are introverts.

Don't get me wrong here, the overall visit was pleasant enough... but it was also exhausting, in some ways. This evening, we find ourselves very grateful to have our space to ourselves again.

Our cat is also very happy to have the large dog gone, so he can roam "his" house in peace and quiet!

The visit was also a reminder that we don't really feel like we are missing out on very much, due to Covid restrictions, and we never really have. Maybe that sounds rather mercenary and self-involved, but it's the truth. If anything, it has been a relief of sorts that people feel more understanding of our reluctance to go places and do things!

Funny how that has worked out!

So now we shall settle in and enjoy our solitude for a while... at least for a few weeks until another friend — who is moving to the Dominican Republic — will be dropping off some of her things to store with us, and to leave her older cat whom we'll be giving her "forever home" to for the rest of her life.

Stay tuned for more!

I think it's a difficult time, but I still hope to have friends to visit home. We need to socialize to prove our existence ,I like your article.

By the way, I am a new witness. If you vote for me as a witness, I will upvote you once everydayimage.png

Delicious! It would be my pleasure to host the somehow really big dog - without humans at the other end of the leash ;-)) Seriously, we have an old Berlin flat and no doors. Everything open and guests would be a really exhausting story.... In any case, have a good time with the senior cat!

Nice post @denmarkguy likewise I had few people in for barbecue since the pandemic started but they didn't spend the night here. I'm the very opposite, extremely social, so I do enjoy interacting with others. The more the better 💁‍♀️
