The Benefits of "Stacking" Steem Power: Comment Upvotes and Engagement!

in hive-185836 •  3 years ago

These days, there are a lot of community initiatives to encourage people to power up their Steemit accounts, rather than always cashing out/powering down their rewards.

We've got Club 50/50, Club 100 and several other variations. Regardless, the underlying idea is that we will benefit from building our accounts.

I've been slowly building my SteemPower balance for quite a while now, and earlier today, I was visiting @steemchiller's excellent SteemWorld.org helper app and noticed that my full upvote these days is approaching 18 cents. By the way, if you're not using SteemWorld, you really owe it to yourself to give it a try!

Anyway, whereas 18 cents for an upvote is not such a huge deal, it's worth noting that have finally reached a point where I can "afford" to give upvotes to particularly meaningful comments on my posts.

It made me remember my early days here, where I frequently got better rewards from actively commenting and engaging, than from creating actual posts!

You might wonder why that is even noteworthy, and the reason is quite simple: upvoting good comments encourages people to engage more and leave more comments. This, in turn, leaves the entire Steemit community showing itself as more active as a result of which it become a lot easier to encourage potential newcomers to join in!

The benefit is not only to encourage newcomers to engage with more content, but also to make the site overall be more active.

After all, this is a "social" site... and social sites aren't all that much fun when people aren't being social! One of the things that drew me here in the first place was exactly that there was a very active set of comments on most posts (2017) and that was very appealing!

Sadly, commenting has fallen off considerably since then... but it would be nice to see it come back some more! Giving people a reason to comment — via upvoting comments — is a good step in that direction!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great Friday!

How about YOU? Are you working to build your Steem Power balance? Do you have enough SP to upvote worthy comments? Do you recognize the importance of engagement? Do leave a comment — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!

You are absolutely right, and your position resonates with the philosophy of @the -gorilla. He also actively encourages users to comment, but to comment meaningful and interesting. And he also supports interesting comments.

I do not understand why people here communicate so little. It was in the comments that I learned many nuances about Steemit, about the interests of members of our community about ... almost everything.

But it seems to me that things are getting better. And it's not just about comments. Steemit is reviving after losing a large number of users.

Yes, I know @the-gorilla and he puts a lot of effort into helping the community.

I believe things are slowly getting a little bit better. Whether we'll ever reach the heights of engagement we had in 2017-18 remains to be seen. I suppose the best we can do is each play our small role.

In my earliest days here I not only learned a lot from comments, but there were also many cases where my actual posts were only making a few cents, and I would make far more as an active commenter. Of course, there were a lot more active people with a lot of SP, back then.

Of course, there were a lot more active people with a lot of SP, back then.

I hope that with the new #clubs initiative, the number of authors with a large number of SPs will increase again.

Were your earnings in 2017-2018 higher than now?

Sometimes it's a bit depressing when you're willing to start a discussion but there's no response... Not all bloggers really value comments, even fewer respond to them...

Manchmal ist es ein bißchen deprimierend, wenn man willig ist, eine Diskussion zu beginnen, aber kein Echo kommt... Nicht alle Blogger legen wirklich wert auf Kommentare, noch weniger reagieren darauf...

I think a lot of people are just here to "make income" and they take no time for the community... what you might call "post and run."

But it's difficult to consider a place like Steemit "social" media if most people aren't interested in the social part.

Things have changed indeed. You published a post about commenting and at the time of writing I can see 222 upvotes and 1 comment. Probably most upvoters did not even read your post.
Anyway, I'l follow your advice by giving that one comment an upvote. Maybe it helps.

I expect most of those upvotes came from people whose accounts are simply on auto vote and follow some well-known curation trail. At least I am hopeful that the person who created the trail is curating manually.

I remember 2-3 years ago many of my posts would "organically" end up with 30-40 comments. Things have very much changed since then.

I thought it was just me, I'm working on building my steem power balance 💪🏻💪🏻

Building the SP will take a while and lot of efforts and actions.
Bring that "Social" aspect to your desire to be a author.
Let's be at it!

It's good to build your stake. It also means you'll make more curation rewards from your votes.

Absolutely brilliant post i appreciate your post

Thank you.
