Earlier today — as part of my researching the way TRON tokens reach our wallets — I also noticed that I had been airdropped all sorts of tokens into my TronScan wallet.
Pretty much all of which were not really tokens at all, but just attempts to scam people.
Most noteworthy, it looked like I had received about 50 million ShibaInu (SHIB) tokens, last June. I did not much think of that from a scam angle, since at the time 50 million SHIB tokens amounted to about $0.005 or half a cent. But due to the unexpected popularity of so-called "Meme Coins," they would actually be worth over $1,200.
Except, of course, they were not the real deal.
Meanwhile, over the past couple of weeks, Steemit has seen a fresh rash of phishing attempts posted as comments on people's posts... promising 100 Steem for casting a witness vote. Again, pure scam.
All the same, I am left wondering why people do these things.
Way back when I worked in the IT industry, I remember how many of the coders would be super excited about the release of new games... and when those games finally dropped, the first thing on their mind was to find/create a set of "cheat codes" for the game.
But why?
For the coders, I could appreciate the challenge of creating code that would take the game apart and extract specific information. But still, it wasn't about money. They were well compensated.
To this day, I remain somewhat baffled.
