As 2022 draws to a close, The Steemit Awards are around the corner, as well. If you don't know what I am talking about, take a moment to read the post I just linked!
The Steemit Awards is an opportunity for the community to highlight "the best" of Steemit across several categories.
But what is really "the best?" And what are the criteria we use to decide what is "best" and what adds most value?
On the surface, it might look like a pretty simple proposition. Consider a category like "Best Author."
There are lots of writers whose content I consistently enjoy. But is the "best" author necessarily the person whose work I personally enjoy the most? Or should I also be considering the degree to which a nominee is contributing to the overall betterment of the community?
After all, those two might not necessarily be the same!
So now it gets a little trickier: Am I just picking "my favourite," or am I also considering whose efforts — in a very broad sense — creates a positive footprint that reflects well on Steemit, in terms of being a good "ambassador" for driving potential new users to the community?
In some ways, it becomes a bit like the many different movie awards out there.
Consider how "Best Film" at the Academy Awards doesn't necessarily go to the general public's favorite film... because "best" and "most popular" aren't typically the same thing.
So why am I writing these words?
Well, it's definitely not to influence how anyone chooses to vote... it's more of a way for me to wander through my own process and my own thoughts... and perhaps to offer an invitation to "think about it," before you send in your nominations!
I'm not claiming that I know what I am doing, by the way! I'm just a long-time user who'd like to see this community keep growing end eventually thrive again.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your week!
How about YOU? Are you planning to make nominations for the Steemit Awards? Do leave a comment — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
