Winter Solstice Time: Taking a Low Key Day After the Snowstorm!

Today — December 21st — is the Winter Solstice, and the shortest day of the year! Happy Solstice, everyone!

Up here in the northern hemisphere, that means the return of daylight is at hand... the days will now slowly start to get longer; this was the shortest day of the year!

It's a snowy winter solstice!

Meanwhile, we had our first major snowstorm of the season, accompanied by much colder than usual temperatures for our area... so we availed ourselves of the opportunity to take a low key day of just staying in and getting ready for Christmas, this weekend.

Well, of course, I went outside to do a little photography... just long enough to get a bit cold — it's 15 degrees (about -10C) out there — and determine that the snowplows had not really made it to our neighborhood, and we have several steep hills with "S-turns" so there was no real chance of going anywhere.

You know the roads are dodgy when the garbage service doesn't even pick up on it's scheduled day!

Our dog Daisy loves the snow, however!

She's part husky and always runs around like crazy when it has snowed... usually trying to find her ball under the snow, somewhere. Remarkably, she often manages to find it, even under snow, testament to the fact that dogs have a pretty good sense of where they leave things!

It's nice to sometimes take a day to just forget about the world and turn your attention homewards!

We used the day to put up some Christmas lights and just catch up with some of our creative projects... Mrs. Denmarkguy even baked some most excellent cookies.

Late in the afternoon (after the snow had stopped) our son arrived from Seattle... he has a 4-wheel drive Jeep, so he was OK in the snow and on smaller roads that hadn't been plowed. He'll be here till the week after Christmas, so we'll at least have some family here!

Tomorrow, life will resume it's normal flow again, but I am grateful for a peaceful day!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week!

How about YOU? Ever get to take a "slack day" where you just relax into doing your OWN thing... rather than busily running errands on your supposed "days off?" Are you expecting company for the holidays? Do leave a comment — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
