The first programmable electronic computer is generally considered to be the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer). It was completed in 1945 and was designed to perform a wide variety of calculations. Keep in mind that there were earlier computing devices like the abacus and mechanical calculators, but the ENIAC was a significant milestone in the development of modern computing.
