Holga, Photography At Its Most Basic
I miss this camera. This Holga used to belong to me for many years before I sold it on eBay as part of a minimalism clear out. I also wasn't using it much so I sent it to a better home where it hopefully got more use than it was getting with me.
I takes a 120 film, commonly referred to as 'medium format' in photography, which are still very easy to find. That format is the second most ubiquitous, after the 35mm format.
The Holga is kind of a wheelbarrow of photography in that it has the basic things you need to capture a photography; a lens, an aperture, a shutter and film. The rest is up to you. I make the wheelbarrow comparison because it too has only the basics; a wheel and a lever - two of the basic components of a 'machine'. The third is a wedge.
The photos you can produce with a Holga are not of a high technical quality as one can imagine. However, it does have a certain quality to it that is very pleasing to lovers of analogue photography. It creates a nice, almost dreamy, vignette that is recognisable as a Holga signature.
Truly,
DT.
