Island Vacation

I went on a four day vacation to the department of the Bay Islands, specifically to Utila, one of the cheapest places in the world to get a diver's certificate. Masks are obligatory, there is a curfew at ten pm, yet it was full of foreigners, people from the US, Europe, Asia and a few South Americans, real nice. It is too late for me to get a diver's certificate I think, I can barely stay afloat, much less go into the water, I leave that for other people.

The trip is on a very nice boat or ferry, it is a catamaran and holds well over 100 passengers, the island is 20 miles away and the trip takes 45 minutes, so it does go fast. I have to say getting there the sea was rough, and I mean rough, lucky I am used to going on boats and never get seasick, or frightened, but there were people screaming, and on the upper, open deck a lot of people got completely wet, I had been warned, I travelled on the upper deck but in the middle, so I got to the island very dry, thank you.

The usual, a football field, but they also have a very nice baseball field.

It really is a great place, the only drawbacks are a lot of traffic on the narrow streets, motorcycles, quad bikes, golf carts and a few cars, also as you can expect a few mosquitoes and sand flies. I would not miss this place for anything.
