This was the game which result was most difficult to predict after how PSG played last week. Liverpool came out looking for an early goal, had several good chances, but could make nothing of them. And just when it seemed a Liverpool goal was inevitable, what usually happens happened. A Liverpool defensive mistake was enough for PSG to score their goal. After this the first half was mostly Liverpool looking for that second goal, missing by inches or just having Donaruma make some good saves. But I must say PSG were dangerous in there counterattacks.
The second half was more Liverpool possession and PSG on the counter. But despite Liverpool having lots of chances again they missed or Donaruma saved. A Liverpool goal was not allowed because of an offside. It was definitely an off side, but I have this feeling that the PSG goal was also preceded by an offside. I guess VAR has the better view. In any case this second half was scoreless so we went to overtime.
Overtime of course, is usually less intense, I mean the players are tired by now and football is of lower quality even. But PSG were able to control Liverpool, so it ended in a golless 30 minutes. That left us with the penalties and here Liverpool missed again and Donaruma became the figure, To me he was man of the match. penalty score was 1-4.
So this week was the inverse of last week were we had Liverpool undeservedly win a game thanks to Allison and today PSG certainly should have lost if not for Donaruma. Leaves me feeling kind of perplexed, I did not expect Liverpool to be thwaretd. But PSG were certainly way better than I expted them to be, in fact they played way smarter than Liverpool.
Last week I was at last able to win a bet thanks to that Liverpool win, today I did not win because of this loss. actually I would not have won anyway, I had both Bayern and Leverkeusen scoring.
