"You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it." - Octavia E. Butler

I can remember my mom getting a new car many years ago and suddenly I became of the same model of car every time we were out on the road - it was as if they were everywhere, lol. As a young girl, I still remember commenting on this to my mom and her response has always stayed with me. I obviously cannot recall her exact words, but I know it was essentially about “awareness”. Something that was always there but had gone unnoticed by me because it was not present in my own life - and how that had changed because she now owned one and I was aware that such a car existed - it came into my sphere of influence.

I have always been of the opinion that we bring into our space what we focus a lot on and I don’t know if it is a similar thing in this instance, but lately I have become a lot more aware of natural writing here on Steemit. I was recently interviewed by @ubongudofot and one of the topics discussed was about writing and my creative process from concept to completion.

My answer to the question was essentially that I do not have one - I simply write. Sure, I “decide” what to write about, but I also mentioned that I choose to write about things which resonate with me for the simple reasons that those are the things which I enjoy and because of that, the writing comes naturally. An approach which I feel believe will always nurture a successful end result… because it is real.

I love that Steemit offers contests, inspirations and ideas for people here to make use of - and those initiatives are fantastic not only for people who are still finding their feet in the writing world, but also for seasoned writers when they are looking for a little bit of topic or content inspiration.

But the posts which really put a smile on my face when I stumble on them are the ones where people are just themselves. There is no rigid format or regurgitated title, it is simply them… in the moment, sharing a slice of their life, mind or experiences and I don’t know if it is just because that subject has been on my mind lately that I am suddenly starting to discover more of that around here, or whether there is actually a “shift” in the way people are approaching their writing, but either way and regardless… it is so wonderful to see!!!!

Writing is such a personal journey and I know that sharing things with complete strangers can be overwhelming - as an artist and creative - I know this fear well… but there is a quote about art by Vincent Van Gogh which goes “If you hear a voice within you say, 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” and I think that the same can be said about written expression.

"Never write anything that does not give you great pleasure. Emotion is easily transferred from the writer to the reader." - Joseph Joubert

It is nice to see people not putting too much emphasis and worry on everything in their posts being “perfect”, but rather - simply enjoying the process. Having fun with that they have to say and basically just letting it flow!

When I read something, I don’t particularly care about typos or incorrect grammar and phrasing - especially not here on Steemit… I mean it is a social space for sharing after all and that should not make people feel like they have to be “some level” of writer in order to openly express themselves. Not that people do feel like that here… I don’t think they do, and that is wonderful.

Authenticity is where it is all at. That, to my mind - is what people need more than ever these days - in fact, whether admitted or not, I think it is what many people crave and seek out because so much of the world has just become plastic and shallow and a lot of the time you actually don’t even know if the photos you are looking at are real or the writing was written by a human… so mistakes and imperfections actually have a place of value in this respect.

"Words are our most inexhaustible source of magic." - J. K. Rowling

Writing should be something you enjoy doing. An art in itself, you should be able to enjoy the process to a degree that you can actually lose time while doing it. If it feels like a chore, then I think you are doing it wrong - within reason obviously… there are obviously certain exceptions. There always are.

Experience as far as written skill set is more likely to develop if you allow yourself the freedom to make mistakes, the enjoyment of just writing something you felt the desire to express and you let go of all the rules and regulations. Stop dotting your i’s and crossing your t’s for just a moment and be yourself.

I am starting to see more and more “perfectly imperfect” posts here and I think it is wonderful, because to me that means people are starting to relax and open up in a way which will become a very special part of their personal journey and this in turn inadvertently makes a positive impact on those around them.

Word! Exactly this is Blogging: not perfect but authentic and unique.

Yip! People need more "freeform outlets" in todays world and Steemit is a perfect solution for that... for those that can still write in full sentences that is... haha :P (Just kidding), lol.

I recently managed to get my boy @judethedude back on here... he got quite lazy for a while (teenagers, gotta love them... and hate them.... haha) He moaned at me because he said he did not know what to write anymore and he did not always want to write about himself, so I told him to just write some of his stories.... he LOVES writing fiction stuff (I suppose all the gaming time in fake worlds inspires him, lol) so now he is doing that.

I had to explain to him that it is HIS blog. HIS space and that he can write about whatever takes his fancy!

That seems to have made him a little less reluctant, haha!

Long may it last....

and yes, it I really do enjoy the casual writers here.

Happy Thursday sweetheart <3
