It's difficult to identify birds by their sounds or presence when they pass by. However, with a little practise, I can identify a lot more birds in the wild.
Many of my photographs of birds show them sitting neatly in profile. Then determining what kind it is is rarely as difficult. Bird song is similar in that it is normally much easier to recognise than the lure or escape sounds heard for a few seconds as the bird flies by.
