Good morning people, today I wanted to do something a little more relaxing or a free theme perhaps; I also wanted to try a little cold tones and also some other very dark ones. That's why I decided to create this character that I called by the name of Marianella, and I decided to paint her in a cold and cloudy night while she enjoys a cigarette; this while many ideas and thoughts go through her head and don't leave her mind calm:
PROCESS
The first idea for my drawing was to create Marianella as a very mature woman, but then when I was making the strokes I decided that it would be better if she wasn't a younger character; maybe around 30 years old or something like that. I drew her with long and slightly wavy hair since I had wanted to try such a hair in a character for a long time; I put my idea into practice and quickly continued with the painting process with very bright colors, especially for the clothes.
For the skin I went a little bit to slightly intense tones because I wanted to create a brown skin, in this step I spent a lot of time looking for colors that would allow the brown tone to have a very cool touch of realism; I also spent a lot of time blurring the more defined strokes in the deep shadows of the chin and neck. For the painting of the eyes I used a bit of gray first with the watercolor brush to achieve a bit of blending and then in a new layer I began to color what would be the inner iris of the eye; I used shades of olive green, marsh green and a bit of calving green to create a good iris with their respective internal fibers that give it that realism I wanted.
The next step was the painting of Marianella's clothes, here I knew I wanted to do something quite special, that's why I focused on creating the dress with a quite elegant style; the blouse I decided to paint it with a very soft silk texture and the skirt with a much darker reddish tone and a little rougher. I continued applying layers to texturize better the clothes and once I achieved it I could move on to the hair section, here in the hair I used brown tones to contrast a little; first I created a little relief with some strands and then I detailed them one by one with a lot of patience.
For the final part I finished the details with a small necklace with a gold medal, and I also painted the cigarette; here I used a very fine brush with a rough and somewhat cracked texture. After finishing almost everything I decided to finish with what would be the scenery of my drawing that as I mentioned would be an open and cold night, I wanted to use intense shades of blue and a little gray and black to create a very striking background and that looked the best possible; I added some clouds and took the opportunity to create what would be the smoke that comes out of the cigarette with a small grayish trail.
