Towards the end of World War II in 1945, the famous British scientist Charles Stoner and JP Mills came to a place called Rillo in the foothills of the Himalayas. The main reason for their arrival was to find a new creature heard from the people there. This animal is a kind of big crocodile. This crocodile was about thirteen feet in length and lived in various swamps. The locals were very afraid of this animal and according to them it was a hybrid species of crocodile and snake. This animal lived mainly in the water and no one saw them outside the water. However, at times they could be seen on the water with their heads about two feet long and their loud roars could be heard. According to local legend, they would not kill people if they fell in front of these animals, but no one wanted to go near the swampy land for fear of them. The name of this animal is Buru.

Three years later, in 1948, Charles Stoner returned to the relay. This time his partner is Ralph Izzard, a journalist from London. This time their destination was a valley called Apa Tani near Rilo. Here they meet the people of the Apatani group and from them they can learn about Buru. According to the legend of these Apatani people, when they first come to this area, they have to deal with a kind of giant crocodile-like reptile. Once, while hunting, a Buru cub came in front of a young man. When he went to catch the cub, a huge bull came in front of the young man. He bit the young man and went under the water. The people of Apatani are scared of this incident. They gradually began to cover the soil in all these swampy lands. After the soil is compacted, it is assumed that almost all of the Buru species die or move to another body of water through the soil floor. However, long after this incident, a helpless woman saw a buru. One night while fetching water from a nearby pond, he saw a buru floating in the pond. Frightened, the woman fled to the village, and on hearing Buru's words, the villagers filled the pond with stones. No animal named Buru was found after the incident.

In 1951, journalist Ralph Izzard wrote the story of their expedition in a book, The Hunt for the Buru. The description of Buru in that book states that the animal is about fifteen feet long and its head is about two feet long. They had a crocodile-like face and four four-toothed teeth. Their tongues were likethe tongues of serpents. The neck of the animal called Buru was about three feet long. Their skin color was black and their skin was white. Their tails were like snakes. They had three rows of horns on their backs.
