Hello everyone, today I am sharing with you an older drawing which was the first one ever in my series of Women and Myths. This is very loosely inspired by the greek goddess of the hunt, Artemis.
She is considered to be the mistress of wild animals, and is usually represented with a stag or hunting dogs, but I took some liberties and drew a black panther alongside her. She is often holding a bow, and carrying a quiver with arrows.
Artemis is also associated with purity, she vowed to stay chaste forever, and she expected her priestesses to behave the same way. In a famous story from mythology, Callisto, one of the followers of the goddess, became pregnant with Zeus's child. To punish her, Artemis transformed her into a bear, to then hunt her. Before she was able to do that, Zeus placed both Callisto and their son in the sky, turning them into the two constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor.
