For me, there are three things that go hand in hand when you think of children: sun, water, and ice cream. There is no better way to give these three things than to take them to the sea.

I can remember so clearly how my mom and dad took us every December holiday to the coast. Our bags were packed long before we actually left.
We would get up early in the mornings to go look for seashells, and as the sun was warming up, the fun in the water started. Of course, building those sand castles and burying our bodies under the sand was a highlight.

Later on, it was something I did with my children. And now, I watch my children take my grandchildren for those sea holidays, or should I say, bring them to the sea, as I am no longer a visitor but a resident. I get to see, smell, and hear the ocean every day.

I miss my grandchildren. I wish I could keep them here with me.
As I sat looking at the engagement contests of week 1, I took a pause… the world of kids… a collage by the sea! Something they can take with them when they leave South Africa in a couple of months.

The first thing I did was see what I had in my "Pandora’s box". I also chose an empty pizza box for the base, as I wanted to see how much recycling material I could use.
I used the sides of the pizza box to cut it and fold it so that it looks like waves. I used blue glitter glue to make the waves look more real.
I used an old corrugated carton envelope and cut it so that I could use it to represent the sand.

I then cut and glued some ads for the shops on the beach that I found in a local directory, and made an umbrella for the sun.
The sun I made from a golden pipe cleaner I found in my box, and the rays of the sun are from gold glitter glue.

I started to add the photos I'd printed on old paper and filled the empty spaces. Some of the photos, the color photos, I placed on pieces of wire twirls so that they stood out, giving them that 3D impression.

I colored the sky with a blue highlighter, and I rebuilt the umbrella as the previous one did not look good. I added seashells that my grandchildren picked up on their last visit.

Lastly, I moved a few pieces around, glued everything, and also glued the collage to an old tray so that it could be hung on a wall.

Now I have to wait and see if my world of kids is good enough for them for when they come and visit me in four weeks.
