Hello friends of๐ steemit, this morning I bring you a fun and interesting post since we are going to apply science to insects and we are going to understand why they are fantastic animals! The insects are part of the phylum number (arthropoda), here many species of animals๐ฒ are grouped from insects to mollusks, it is the phylum with the largest number of species known on our planet! insects have a very distinctive characteristic when๐ฎ๐ค compared to vertebrates, arthropods do not have a column and their body is divided into segments! In my post we are going to see under the microscope the antenna of a grasshopper๐ฆ๐ and its leg, we are going to see what both parts are for!
WHY ARE INSECTS FANTASTIC?๐ง ๐จโ๐ป๐จโ๐ซ๐จโ๐
Answering this question is easy, we are describing a group of animals that can live in almost any type of habitat, from hot deserts to very cold places, almost always we are going to get an insect and all this success is due to its enormous capacity. evolutionary๐, we are referring to animals that have undergone many evolutionary adaptations over millions of years, and that is why they have conquered any place! while other animals became extinct, insects came to inhabit the earth for thousands of years more!๐งซ๐ฌ
Arthropods have ruled our planet for more than 500 million years, and currently more than 1,000,000 species have been discovered, and surely there are many more out there waiting to be discovered since we have very little explored๐ our planet, the๐๐ฆ segmented body of the Insects have some extensions (antennae, wings, legs) that help them perform various types of Biological-Chemical mechanisms, we ๐คฏshould not underestimate insects because each one has a characteristic that differentiates them from another! Today we are going to look at the antenna and the leg of the grasshopper under a magnifying glass. We know that these animals are common to various types of ecosystems, we can find them even in the backyard of our houses! The first thing that comes to our mind is to figure out why the grasshopper can make great leaps. let's see his paw to understand!๐ฌ
LEG OF AN INSECT?๐ง ๐จโ๐ป๐จโ๐ซ๐จโ๐
The legs๐ฆฟ๐ฆฟ of the insects have some variations depending on the species, here we are in the presence of a leg of the species: (Tettigonia viridissima), it is the common green grasshopper! the leg is divided into parts starting with the "coxa", followed by the "trochanter" ๐ฎ๐ฎfinally we find the femur, the tibia and the tarsus; grasshoppers have a structure that follows from the tarsus which is called: pretarsus!๐ฆ
Each leg of an insect does not have a common purpose, depending on the design of the leg performs a specific type๐ฆ๐ฆ of function, for example this is a walking-jumping leg, these extensions of the appendix that look like "saws" which help the animal๐ฆพ๐ฆฟ To hold on to the middle so as not to slip, at the same time it serves as a traction so that its interstitial tissue that looks like a stretch mark or similar to the "muscle" of us can contract and release tension to produce a jump! Due to the design of the leg and its internal structure full of powerful "muscles" makes it possible for the grasshopper to jump very high, these jumps are a defense๐ฌ๐ฅ mechanism to flee!
INSECT ANTENNA?๐ง ๐จโ๐ป๐จโ๐ซ๐จโ๐
The antenna is ๐คan extension of the head of the insect and it is very important to perform certain sensory functions, it could generally be defined as an appendix that is always mobile, is located in front of its "eyes" and is chemical receptors,๐๐ which gives the animal the ability to "smell", "feel", "hear". You can see an insect that loses a leg but it can still continue to live for several days, but an insect without an antenna dies in hours since it is the most important part of the animal!๐ฎ๐
All the antennae of insects are composed ๐
๐๐of a structure called (antennae), then the parts of the antenna are the flagellum and the pedicel, not all antennae are the same, there is a great variety of insects with very strange antennae, some are shaped like๐จ " feather ", others look like" hair "but although there is a great variety they all perform the same function! the most interesting part of the antenna is the famous organ of (Johnston) which is a sensitive mechanism that tells the insect where there is a current of air or water!๐ง๐ง
Thanks for reading my post and don't miss another chapter where we will study the wings and the internal structure of an insect!๐จโ๐ซ๐จโ๐
