The most important fundamental to know for product design (or concept art) is linear perspective drawing.

Before designing a product, it is best to research the subject.
Then, to draw some rough sketches to find a design you like.
The more sketches you draw, the better.
In addition, test color palettes to use.
Context is important too.
In the next example, I drew a backpack inspired by Patrick.
I used Patrick's shape and colors.
Yet, something was missing.
The missing thing, especially for people who do not know the character, is some drawings of the characters itself (Patrick).
I have done the same when I designed some SpongeBob bags.
You can use any medium for drawing product design.
