Here are some quick sketches of portraits.
It is part of my realistic drawing guide.
Anatomy tip:
Eyes are usually located at the center of the face (between the chin and top part of the hair).
My commission drawing steps are:
- Drawing the form accurately.
- Adding brightness values from top to bottom, and from left to right (because I am right-handed), so not to smudge what I already drew.

Accuracy of the form is super important, and I spend as much time as needed on that.
I like smooth paper, but with some tooth to it.
Here is my drawing-paper guide for realistic drawing.
Sometimes, I do draw from left to right.
In these cases, I put a paper sheet below my drawing hand, so not to smudge.
So, first the form (structure).
Then, values.
And, some refinement.
Portraits, in my opinion, are arguably the hardest to draw.
Unlike animals, or trees, we recognize each face, and the difference between one person to another is very small.
And that is why accuracy is so important.
Because I do not always have time, I sometimes draw on a smaller paper sheet. For example, A5.

For me, this is the most terrible topic for drawing, when I have to draw a person’s face, I close my eyes and hope that when I open them, this idea of mine will evaporate :)

Yeah, it is hard because accuracy is much more important than drawing nature, for example.

I think that the degree of importance is determined by the situation, if you draw a portrait for money, then accuracy is extremely important, but there is an amendment here if you have not agreed with the client that you will draw a caricature of him :)

Not just for money. If you want to draw your girlfriend/boyfriend, you do not want them to be angry :o)

Sometimes it's better to deal with money lol, I don't draw my family for this reason :)
